Woman thinks she won $43 million after casino error

NEW YORK (WCMH) — The machine told her she had just won nearly $43 million, but the casino claims it was all a mistake.

“I kept thinking about my family,” Katrina Bookman told WABC. “The struggle I’ve been through, it’s hard to cope.”

Bookman, who was raised in a foster home, who eventually became homeless but got herself through high school and is now raising four kids said the moment at the Resorts World Casino, seemed like a life changer.

She said she was going to buy a barbershop for her son, and give back to her community that has helped her.

Then the casino told her it was a mistake by the slot machine and that she didn’t win anything.

“He offered me a steak dinner,” Bookman told WABC

Bookman’s attorney said the casino should at least pay the maximum winning allowed by the slot machines, which is $6,500, but the casino says that by law, they aren’t able to do so, because she is only entitled to a winning of $2.25.

Bookman said she plans to sue the casino.
