Gun sales spike as heated presidential election nears

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – As the presidential election nears, some Tennessee gun stores are seeing a spike in sales.

At Guns and Leather Pro Shop in Hendersonville, sales have increased leading up to Election Day next Tuesday.

But store managers say sales are nowhere near the high sales they saw the first time President Barack Obama was elected.

Guns and Leather assistant manager Darrell Herndon said the fear is some AR-type weapons and high-capacity magazines could be banned under the next president.

“When Hillary’s points start spreading, I guess people start getting concerned that she would start eliminating some things,” Herndon told News 2.

With Hillary Clinton in the lead, it’s enough to make some customers want to stock up.

“If she gets elected, I would probably hurry up and go stockpile,” said customer Jason Wall. “As much as I could, without being kicked out by the wife.”

Last week, as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s poll numbers slipped, gun sales spiked at other retailers.

At Nashville Gun Shop on Antioch Pike in South Nashville, sales are dipping slightly in the last few days as Trump’s poll numbers went up.
