One dead in west Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, OHIO (WCMH) —  One man has died after an early morning shooting on the city’s west side.

The shooting happened just after 4:30am on the 710 block of South Ogden Avenue. Officers found the victim in the doorway of a home with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics pronounced 26-year-old William Howard dead at the scene.

Police found a semiautomatic handgun and broken glass in the middle of the street.

“Clearly there was some type of altercation in the street, possibly a gun fight,” said Sgt. Dave Sicilian with the Columbus Division of Police. Officers believe Howard lived at the home where he was found.

There is no suspect information available at this time.
