Man rescued near Scioto River in northwest Columbus after falling from cliff

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police and fire worked to rescue a man who reportedly fell from a cliff near the Scioto River in northwest Columbus, Monday morning.

At about 4:45am, emergency crews were called to the area of Riverside and Cranston drives on the report of a person in the water.

According to Columbus firefighters however, the victim called 911 on a cell phone saying he was in the woods after falling from a cliff.

Emergency crews searched for the man for more than an hour before locating him.

Firefighters performed an aerial backboard rescue because of where he was located, and removed the man from the bottom of the cliff.

The man’s condition is unknown at this time but he was talking when firefighters found him.
