Robot goes to school for sick child

MILWAUKEE, WI (WCMH) – A child’s rare condition keeps him from being in class, but not to worry, he sends a robot in his place.

Fourth grader Grady Loper misses a lot of school, but he uses some cutting edge technology to minimize the missed school days.

From home, he is able to remotely pilot a robot on wheels from his laptop, Avatar style.

“He can navigate all around the classroom,” says teacher Gina Fischer.

The robot is equipped with a camera and microphone. It allows Grady to interact with his teachers and classmates without risking infection. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
