CLEARCREEK TWP., OH (WCMH) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash near Amanda that left one person dead and a child injured.

The Patrol says 26-year-old James Braden of Stoutsville was traveling northeast on State Route 159 around 8:51 a.m. Wednesday. Braden reportedly drove left of the center line and hit a Freightliner semi truck. The semi drove off the left side of the roadway, struck the guardrail, drove off the embankment and came to final rest on its side.

Braden died as a result of his injuries, according to the Patrol. A juvenile in the car with him was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was transported to Fairfield Medical Center win minor injuries.

The Patrol says the Freightliner was hauling oil at the time of the crash. The Environmental Protection Agency was called to the scene.

Troopers continue to investigate, and say alcohol is not believed to be a factor. S.R. 159 is still closed in both directions between Hamburg Road and Bowers Road.
