Newborn found alive in university dumpster

COLUMBIA, SC (WCMH) – A South Carolina college student was arrested Wednesday after police say she put her newborn baby in a dumpster.

Amber Brianna Fulton, 19, a student at Clafin University, faces charges of attempted murder and unlawful conduct towards a child, WIS reported.

According to court documents, she gave birth early Wednesday morning and cut the umbilical cord with paper scissors.

When the baby started to cry, the cleaned him off, put him in a plastic bag and put the bag in a dumpster on campus, according to police.

Custodians at the school heard the child crying as they were collecting garbage. They found a healthy five pound seven ounce baby boy and called police.
