Mom of child who suffers seizures charged with giving daughter marijuana

BOISE, ID (WMCH) — Back in October, the woman’s 3-year-old daughter began to suffer a seizure, so she gave the girl a marijuana smoothie.

Natalie Osborne told KBOI she hopes for medical marijuana reform in Idaho, after her kids were taken from her custody and she was charged. “It tore me apart. I didn’t ever think that it would come down to this but it did,” Osborne said.

Osborne’s two kids were placed in the care of her ex-husband by the Department of Health and Welfare after she gave the 3-year-old the marijuana smoothie in hopes it would help the girl who was suffering from seizures and hallucinations.

Now she and medicinal marijuana groups are advocating for reform.

“It’s something that I’m going to fight for and I’m not going to give up until I have them back home where they have been begging me to be.” Osborne told KBOI.

A spokesperson with the Department of Health and Welfare said they were only following current laws, and that medicinal marijuana is legal for small groups in Idaho. “Marijuana is illegal. Even in states that have legalized it, it is not legal to use on children,” said the spokesperson. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
