COLUMBUS (WCMH) — NBC4 is mobilizing 4’s Army on Saturday, November 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00pm at the NBC4 Studios, 3165 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43202, to collect non-perishable food for Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Volunteers will also staff the Call 4 phone bank, starting at 6am, to take credit card donations. Once again, 97.9 WNCI is partnering to fight hunger with NBC4.
“Thanksgiving is our nation’s original harvest festival and a special time to count our own blessings, as well as share with those less fortunate,” said Ken Freedman, NBC4 vice president and general manager. “It never ceases to amaze me to see how our family of NBC4 viewers rise to the call to help out those in need and we are thankful to that spirit of kindness and wish all in our community a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.”
Every $16.06 donated provides a 12-pound turkey to a local family. Just a $1 donation can help provide four meals. Consider donating non-perishable food items that go with a traditional Thanksgiving meal such as canned green beans or yams, gravy mixes, pie filling, mushroom soup, cranberry sauce, etc. Mid-Ohio Foodbank lists its essential food needs as: chili with beans, canned fruit, tuna, canned vegetables, canned meat, soup with vegetables, and peanut butter.
“One in four children in our community do not know where their next meal is coming from,” said Matt Habash, president and CEO of Mid-Ohio Foodbank. “Although nearly half of the people we serve are employed, they struggle to meet all the needs of everyday life. At Mid-Ohio Foodbank, we are working hard to connect nutritious food to our hungry neighbors. Through programs like 4’s Army Food Drive, we can end hunger, together, one nourishing meal at a time.”
Donations will stock the shelves for Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s network of more than 650 pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, senior living centers, day care and after-school programs in 20 counties in central and eastern Ohio.
