CUYAHOGA CO., OH (WCMH) — Zachary Benson is facing federal charges after he was accused of tweeting an explicit threat to kill President-elect Donald Trump.
According to NBC News, Benson, 24, who lives near Cleveland, tweeted early in the morning on November 9, “My life goal is to assassinate Trump. Don’t care if I serve infinite sentences. That man deserves to decease [sic] existing.”
Benson told investigators that he had no serious intentions behind the threats, and was frustrated thinking about how President-elect Trump’s election could affect his job. He immediately deleted the tweet the next day.
Benson now faces up to five years in prison if he’s convicted of the single count of making threats against the president and successors to the presidency.
