COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Daly Schaeffer loves being a police officer, despite not actually being one. However, that all changed today thanks to Columbus police.

Daly, 8, has dressed as a police officer for Halloween two years in a row, and this year, he won the Columbus Division of Police cute kid cop costume contest.

As part of winning the contest, Daly was given a ride in a police cruiser provided by Sgt. Sheehan, Sgt. Mabry & Officer Hittie, Tuesday morning, on his way to Granby Elementary School. His principal even allowed his classmates to greet him when he arrived at school and got out of the cruiser.

Officers also allowed a “cruiser crawl” for Daly’s classmates and let them shout, “Go Granby Gators,” on their cruiser audio speakers.

Daly also received a CPD challenge coin from Sgt. Mabry for the boy’s love of law enforcement and his support. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
