VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL (WKMG/WCMH) — Deputies in Florida say a Thanksgiving dinner turned violent after a family argument.
Deputies say 34-year-old Edwin Daugherty was arguing with his mother. The argument escalated when Daugherty put his mother in a headlock. When his father tried to intervene, Daugherty also put him in a headlock before grabbing a steak knife and stabbing both of his parents.
The violent outburst happened in front of family and friends who were visiting for the holiday.
“Don’t you think holidays sometimes bring out the worst in people and perhaps whatever the argument was, if there was an argument, just got out of hand,” said Anne Steele, a neighbor of Daugherty’s parents.
According to deputies, Daugherty faces two counts of attempted murder. His father is in serious-to-critical condition with multiple stab wounds and his mother is in serious condition.
