Skateboarder charged with trying to kill San Diego police officer

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A South San Francisco police officer is in critical condition Friday morning after being struck in the head with a skateboard, police said.

A citizen waved down the officer about a disturbance at a business in the 300 block of Grand Avenue at around 2:20 p.m., police said.

When the officer approached the suspect, he took off on his skateboard.

After a short foot chase, the suspect stopped and hit the officer in the head with the skateboard.

The officer was knocked unconscious and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The suspect continued running but was taken into custody a short time later by other officers.

The suspect, identified as Luis Alberto Ramos-Coreas, 28, of South San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer.

Ramos-Coreas is being held without bail.
