COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The University of *ichigan took the American Red Cross “Blood Battle” trophy back this year from The Ohio State University, the Red Cross announced Friday.
The Wolverines beat the Buckeyes by just eight donations in the annual competition to see who can bring in the most blood donations in the weeks leading up to “The Game.”
*ichigan had 2,363 donations and OSU had 2,355. Ohio State won the trophy in 2014 and 2015; *ichigan leads the overall 35-year battle with 20 wins. Ohio State has won the trophy 14 times, and one year resulted in a tie.
“Buckeye fans showed they bleed scarlet and gray by coming out to help patients and try to beat Michigan,” said Rodney Wilson, communications manager for the local Red Cross. “Even though Michigan is taking the trophy this year, the real winners are the patients who will benefit from the more than 4,700 potentially lifesaving blood products given at each school.”
