Lima Company Marines honored at Ohio State

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — This is a first for The Ohio State University–partnering with the “Eyes of Freedom” military tribute to Columbus-based Lima Company Marines who died in combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005.

“The Eyes of Freedom has been traveling the country for a long time now, we have never seized the opportunity to work with OSU yet,” said Mike Strahle. He travels with the paintings and is also a surviving member of Lima Company.

At least three of the fallen Marines were either attending OSU or graduated from there before dying in combat with the unit. Strahe said the university was very supportive when the remaining marines from that unit returned stateside.

“To have the ‘Eyes of Freedom here for OSU Michigan home game, we could not ask for a better spot,” Strahe said. “The energy down here is electric, but there is not anyone at home or attending the game who doesn’t remember Lima,” he said. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
