Woman dead, suspect in critical condition from self-inflicted wounds after stabbing on east side

REYNOLDSBURG (WCMH) — Columbus Police say a woman is dead and the suspect in her killing is in critical condition after a stabbing.

Police were called to the 2600 block of Castine Way around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Columbus Police say 26-year-old Carmen Sanchez-Capellan was pronounced dead at 5:14 a.m. She had multiple stab wounds, and her neck had been slashed.

The suspect in her stabbing, 24-year-old Marielky Puello-Cruz, was taken to the hospital with “several self-inflicted stab wounds.” Police say he was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Charges are expected to be filed shortly.

Police say Sanchez-Capellan and Puello-Cruz were arguing before he attacked her.

The incident remains under investigation. This is the 88th homicide in Columbus in 2016.
