Police called when man won’t stop whistling ‘Closing Time’

PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) — Forest Grove police were called when a man wouldn’t stop “obnoxiously” whistling Semisonic’s classic 90s hit “Closing Time” at the end of a woman’s driveway.

Captain Mike Herb with the Forest Grove Police Department said the incident took place on Saturday.

The unnamed man was whistling the song, and when the woman who lived nearby told him to “quiet down,” a verbal argument took place.

Police said the woman lives on 21st Avenue.

“He wasn’t breaking any laws,” Herb said.

After officers arrived and spoke with the man, he continued on his way without incident.

The Forest Grove Police Department got in a little joke when they posted their weekly police log with a line from the song, “You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.” Even Time picked up the story.
