PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH (WCMH) – The southbound lanes of U.S. 23 were shut down north of Circleville for several hours due to a deadly crash.

It happened shortly after 3:30pm Thursday on U.S. Route 23 just north of the U.S. Route 22 exit.

According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, a car driven by Shannon R. Walker, 42, of Circleville was traveling north on U.S. 23 when the driver pulled through a crossover in the road. Deputies said Walker pulled in front of a bucket truck driven by 59-year-old Frank T. Elfrey of Waverly.

The bucket truck overturned on the road and Briggs’ car went off the west side of the road. A southbound van driven by Robert D. Knuckles was unable to avoid a collision with the bucket truck, according to investigators.

A passenger in Walker’s car, 38-year-old Sabrina Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker was taken by medical helicopter to OSU’s Wexner Medical Center.

Another passenger in Walker’s car, 23-year-old Bre’den J. Smith was pinned in the back seat of the car and had to be extricated by rescue workers. He was taken to OSU’s Wexner Medical Center.

U.S. 23 was closed for several hours. The roadway reopened around 9pm.
