3 killed in 30+ vehicle crash in Michigan

FOWLERVILLE, MI (WOOD) — Three people were killed when up to 40 vehicles were involved in a crash on I-96 east of Lansing, reports NBC affiliate WDIV-TV.

The multiple-vehicle wreck happened on westbound I-96 near Fowlerville, about 30 miles east of Lansing, around 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

Multiple injuries have also been reported and people were trapped in their vehicles.

The highway is closed in both directions between M-52 and Fowlerville Road.

Police are blaming slippery conditions for the massive crash.
