Security guard hospitalized, man in critical condition after southeast Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A security guard was injured and another man was critically injured in a shooting Thursday night in southeast Columbus.

It happened just before 8:30pm in the 5500 block of Tinley Park in Columbus.

Police arrived on scene to find a man, now identified as Christopher A. Wilkes, who had been shot in the upper body.

Police say the security guard told them the man attempted to hit him with his car so he fired his weapon to defend himself. They say it appears right now that the security guard was helping a woman who had been assaulted by Wilkes, when the incident took place.

Wilkes, was taken to Grant Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The security guard was also injured and taken to OSU’s Wexner Medical Center in unknown condition. It was not clear how the security guard was injured.

Police are still investigating, and say the security guard is cooperating with them.
