Sheriff’s office identifies victim of fatal car accident on Saturday

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver killed in a single-car accident early Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 3:30am on State Route 315 southbound near the Bethel Road exit. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Biko Wambugu Wachira, 40, drove off the right side of SR 315 South and struck a concrete wall at the Bethel Road overpass. The vehicle then traveled across SR 315 and hit a guardrail on the left side of the road before stopping in the left two lanes of SR 315 South.

Columbus Fire Medics pronounced Wachira dead at the scene. Deputies say Wachira was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators say it is not clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
