COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The holiday season is officially underway! With all the shopping, planning, cooking and get-togethers you have on your schedule, you might be having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit. Fortunately, Columbus is full of places to get you out of your Scrooge-like funk. We asked NBC4 viewers what their favorite holiday festivities in the city are, and here’s what they said:
The lighting ceremony may be over, but there’s still tons of lights to see! More than 250,000 LED lights have been strung on 150 trees! (Don’t worry, the lighting is energy-efficient.) Plus there’s holiday projections on the fountain, and the lights will be on every night until Jan. 8.
Nothing ushers in the holiday season quite like the classic ballet, ‘The Nutcracker.’ This season, you can catch 11-year-old Molly Rainford-Dreibelbis playing the role of Clara and transporting you to the magical world of the Sugar Plum Fairies. This season of ‘The Nutcracker’ will run until Christmas Eve.
So, it’s not technically in Columbus, but Wildlights has become a holiday tradition here in Central Ohio. It’s gone from a few strands of lights to millions of LED lights, animated musical light shows and other holiday festivities! Wildlights runs until Jan. 1.
Sure, Easton Town Center is probably on your list of holiday shopping spots, but the mall offers so much more during the holidays. From horse-drawn carriage rides and glamorous lights to holiday entertainers and Chaunakah celbrations, Easton has it all this season.
State Auto’s life-sized Nativity display is a favorite among Columbus residents. The display will remain lighted until Jan. 2, and choirs perform every Friday and Saturday evening until Christmas. Bonus: For every Instagram photo you tag with #StateAutoChristmas16, State Auto will donate $1 to Manna Café.
Winter Wonderland at Creekside is a favorite stop in Gahanna. With hundreds of lights and tons of fun holiday activities, it’s a holiday stop you won’t want to miss.
If you’re looking for something a little less nice and a little more naughty this holiday season, stop by Shadowbox Live and see Holiday Hoopla! This live show mixes sketch comedy with seasonal music and features the famous Santa Babies. Your sides will be hurting from all the laughter by the time the show ends! Hurry and get your tickets now: The show runs through Dec. 30.
Take a step back in time at the Ohio Village and see Charles Dickens’ vision come to life through carolers, decorations and traditions. You can even find the perfect gift at P. Wylie’s Emporium and check out the craft and cooking demonstrations.
Head over to Alum Creek State Park and check out the 17th Annual Fantasy of Lights. See the gorgeous lights in the convenience (and warmth!) of your car with the Drive Thru Light Show and stop by the Santa House for free hot Chocolate and cookies!
