Man identified in Hilltop shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say one person has died after reports of a shooting in the Hilltop area.

Columbus police and medics responded to reports of a shooting victim in the snow on the 300 block of S Harris Avenue just after 10 p.m. Thursday. Michael D. Moreno, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found evidence to suggest the shooting took place inside a home in the area.

When officers went to investigate, two people inside the home came out without incident. The third person refused to come out of the house, so SWAT was called in to assist.

Neighbors in the area were evacuated from their homes. Officers brought in a COTA bus for them to wait in to stay warm down the street.

Police say SWAT went in and “persuaded” the third person to come out without a fight.

All three occupants are being questioned, but no one has been arrested at this time.

The incident is under investigation.
