Two dead after ambulance overturns on I-70 in Guernsey County

CAMBRIDGE, OH (WCMH) — A patient and an emergency medical services worker died in a crash in Cambridge around 2 a.m. Saturday morning after an ambulance overturned.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the 2008 Econoline Ambulance was transporting a patient westbound on I-70 near milepost 176. The ambulance apparently lost control, drove off the left edge of the highway, and overturned multiple times.

Patient Dennis Calvert, 64, of Wheeling, WV and Charles McMahan, 39, of New Maramoras, OH were killed in the crash. Three other emergency personnel sustained minor injuries and were treated at Southeastern Medical Center.

The Patrol says the crash occurred during a “significant weather event” in Guernsey county. The crash report will be forwarded to the Guernsey County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The ambulance was registered to Tri State Ambulance.
