One person dead after being struck by vehicle in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus Police say a woman died after being hit by a vehicle in south Columbus Sunday.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 8:54pm, a 25-year-old man was driving westbound on Refugee Road, just west of Eastland 5, when he struck a 51-year-old woman, who was walking eastbound.

Police have identified the woman as Gayla Coleman.

Coleman died as a result of her injuries. The male driver was uninjured in the crash.

Police continue to investigate, but say use of intoxicating substances is not suspected.
