COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus Police say one man is dead and a woman is injured after a shooting in north Columbus Sunday evening.
It happened in the area of Loretta Avenue around 7:21pm. Three people were in a car when the shooting happened.
Police said someone fired multiple shots into the car. The group then drove to Grasmere Avenue.
“They just drove here to seek help from people that they knew in this area,” said Columbus homicide Detective Stan Latta.
Rick Schmidt heard the shots at this house on Grasmere Avenue.
He said his primary concern were his two grandchildren he had at his house.
“They come over to the house and play in the backyard, mess around, stuff like that and bullets have no name,” said Schmidt.
The male victim, now identified as Damon D. Waddell, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim, who is not being identified at this time, was taken to Riverside Hospital and she’s expected to be okay. The third person in the car was able to escape with no injuries.
Police say the suspects may have known the victims before the incident, but there is no known motive right now.
This is the 70th homicide of 2017.
