GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California jury has awarded $2 million to the family of a woman who died after giving birth.
The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/1RsLfPv ) says the jury on Monday found the obstetrician was negligent. Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center settled before trial for $3.2 million.
The suit said 26-year-old Ling Nie of China — who chose to deliver in the United States — gave birth to a healthy boy last year but then suffered postpartum hemorrhaging.
Obstetrician Long-Dei Liu stopped the bleeding and had her transferred to the ICU, telling nurses to call him if her condition worsened.
She later took a turn for the worse and was taken off life support three days later.
After the verdict, Liu said the woman had been stable and he had acted properly.
