COLUMBUS, Ohio – With summer break just around the corner, many families are asking themselves what to do with the kids and how to afford it.

These tough economic times make it difficult for families to afford summer camp, but NBC 4's Candice Lee reported Friday about money available to students who need it.

GO! — Great Opportunities for Franklin County Kids — is a program designed to help kids get the most out of their summers and find the perfect camp.

"We feel very strongly that all children should have a summer camping experience. It's absolutely important that kids keep learning over the summer," Paula Brooks, Franklin County commissioner said.

More than $2 million was pledged by Franklin County commissioners to give the children of low-income families the opportunity to go to summer camp.

There are more than 30 camps to choose from, NBC 4 reported. Kids can choose from themes such as arts and culture, science, music and history.

Kids should be between 5 and 17 years of age to participate.

Families can pick between day camps and overnight camps, and they must register at a GO! participating camp by the end of June.

For more information, families can call 614-227-8738.
